Tomasz Staniszewski was a guest on Radio Plus Radom, where he spoke about the event “Through Memory and Oblivion. Radom,” which took place at the Deskurów Townhouse. The meeting had a film-and-music format and provided an opportunity to discuss the history of the city and the restoration of memory about its multicultural heritage.
The central point of the event was the screening of the documentary “Through Memory and Oblivion. Radom” directed by Rafał Kotomski, originally produced for the English-language channel TVP World. The documentary is part of a series devoted to places in Central Europe where large Jewish communities lived before the Second World War. The film raises the question of how we remember today the former inhabitants and their contribution to the history of these cities.
During the conversation on Radio Plus Radom, Tomasz Staniszewski spoke not only about the film itself and the event at the Deskurów Townhouse, but also about the activities of the “Ślady – historie radomskie” Foundation, of which he is a co-founder and president. The foundation focuses on documenting and promoting the multicultural history of Radom, particularly the heritage connected with the Jewish community.
As he emphasized in the interview, initiatives such as film screenings, meetings and concerts are an important element in restoring the memory of the city’s former inhabitants and in building historical awareness among contemporary residents of Radom.
The event at the Deskurs' Townhouse included the screening of the film, a meeting with the director, and the concert “Jewish Impressions,” referring to Jewish culture and the historical identity of the city.
